Problem Statement of the Proposed Project:

Fish measurement is very important to the fishery, sample of fish measurement is a main parameter to identify the fish health, reproduction, and growth. In addition, measurement of fish length and weight is required to get the estimate food needed to feed the fish in order to avoid waste and excessive cost, it is also can avoid fish to overfeeding, to prevent the fish from becoming cannibals to its own species and to prevent the fish from stunted growth. Currently in Malaysia, the fish are still measured manually with meter measuring device. The manual fish measurement system, however, has several shortcomings, including the fact that to measure fish length and weight in large quantities manually is time-consuming, the fish health can also be influence by the way fish are managed, the traditional method where the fish farmer has to measure the fish length and weight by taking them one by one can affect the health of the fish and can make the fish stress.

Objectives of the Proposed Project:

The following goals are targeted in this project:
(i) To design a fish length measuring system based on computer vision.
(ii) To develop a method that can estimate the fish weight from fish length.
(iii) To evaluate the performance of aquatic life monitoring and measurement system.
